Enjoying your time in Hawaii

Resources and Discounts for Hawai'i

We know there's a lot of information on the internet and it can be a bit overwhelming for first time visitors.  PLEASE be sure to scroll all the way down to see the various activities we have planned and how to sign up for them.

December 7th

Meet us at Bacchus Waikiki from 6pm til ?? for an informal "meet and greet".  It is located just half a block away from our host hotel: Coconuts Waikiki on Lewers Street.  The owners and bartenders there want to welcome those of you fortunate enough to fly in on Thursday.  Stop in and say hello to bartenders Andrew Mitchell and Bill Leeds and meet some members of Hawai'i Gay Flag Football League (HIGFFL) and Hawai'i Gay Kickball League.  Thursday nights is Tequila night but they have also promised to set up some drink specials for members who show their PGVC member card (we will hand out at our events throughout the weekend).

Visit http://www.bacchus-waikiki.com/home/ for more information and to keep up with their events.

KARAOKE on the island??

For those of you who love karaoke, we suggest Wang Chung's Karaoke Bar!  Stop in and say hello to fellow NAGVA member and KJ/bartender, Jared F.  This bar is also a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki.  Whether it's a quick bite and a drink or just to listen to some amazing talent, you'll be glad you stopped in to Wang Chung's Karaoke Bar.

We also recommend the following sites to help plan an exciting and fun-filled vacation:

This site is kept updated and the blogs pretty much "Tells it like it is!".  We like that the writer crams a bunch of information without overwhelming by breaking it up in sections.  Her picks of "MUST SEE ATTRACTIONS" includes a lot of what we would have suggested ourselves.

December 8th

Chartered PRIVATE Catamaran for a 3 hour sail and snorkel tour :

Join us on December 8th for a 3 hour sail and snorkel tour!  See the island of Oahu from offshore, watch spinner dolphins play in the ocean, and snorkel with Green turtles and other marine life at Turtle Canyon.  There is a great chance we will see Humpback Whales since it whale watching season is from Nov - May each year.  Cost per person is $58 and will include free snacks, beer, wine, and mixed drinks.  Maximum capacity on the catamaran is 26 people.  You will be confirmed and added to the list once you send us a message (PGVClub@gmail.com - subject line CATAMARAN) and PAY IN FULL using Venmo account pgvclub@gmail.com.  If you use PayPal, please send payments to GerritH3@gmail.com and select "Friends and Family".

For more information or to see the catamaran we will be sailing on visit : http://waikikisailing.com

In addition to signing up and paying...we need to know if you will need snorkel gear.  The boat can offer some snorkel gear WITHOUT fins.  So, our advice if you are a novice/intermediate swimmer is to rent your own gear from the MANY snorkel shops available around the Waikiki area.  Or check with your hotel, hosts, family, etc if they have any equipment you can borrow.

AS OF DECEMBER 2 - 2 SPOTS AVAILABLE -  (we have added a second cruise) Only a 2 spots left on each cruise!! !!

Beach Party, drinks on the lanai, SUP and surf :

We have decided that we will host a lanai party across the street from Queen's Beach and Kapiolani Park at one of the most iconic gay bars on the island, Hula's Bar & Lei Stand.  There will be drink and food specials available and if you didn't get enough of the ocean from the catamaran cruise or want to continue working on your tropical tan all you have to do is take a trip across the street.  The venue is only a short 5 minute walk from where the catamaran picks up and drops off and is an open air bar!  PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR LANAI PARTY!!

Registration Event

Athlete registration will be held at Scarlet Honolulu from 7 pm - 10:00 pm on December 8th.  This is the islands largest gay club that has a lounge that serves daily food specials and offers a 10% discount to NAGVA members that show the PGVC member card.  Scarlet will also be creating some drink specials for our volleyball event that will be available all weekend.  At 10pm Scarlet will host their Friday Night Drag show.  Rumor has it that there will be special performances from family members of one of the directors!

Please be sure to contact them directly for table and bottle service during the show.  It's worth checking into and gives you a front row, unobstructed view of the show!

December 9th

VISIT THE ALOHA STADIUM SWAP MEET : http://www.alohastadiumswapmeet.net/content/home.aspx

This is the best place to buy souvenirs for your loved ones and gifts for those who deserve one. Since pool play is being run from 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm why not take advantage of your Saturday morning?

After pool play, Bacchus Waikiki has offered to be our "host bar" for the evening. Drink specials will be available as well as food specials. We will NOT have a seeding party so this is the "unofficial official" Saturday evening event!!

December 10th

Awards and Closing Party

After tournament play, we will be presenting awards and hosting our closing party at Scarlet Lounge.  The club is normally closed on this day but will allow us to host an awards banquet for all participating athletes.  Dinner will be provided to athletes and Scarlet Lounge will be staffing the bar to serve drinks (cash and cards accepted).  IF YOU HAVE A GUEST you would like to bring with you, the cost for the guest is $20 and must be paid BEFORE Sunday bracket begins.  If they are just attending to support awards, there will be a $5 cover.  We cannot guarantee that your guest will be allowed to eat if you do not pay us before the end of Saturday Pool Play.  Wrist bands will be issued to captains for their team members and replacement bands will cost $20.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Along with the regular MVP, All-Stars, and Defensive Diva awards for all divisions, we also have a special Nā Hoa Aloha award for one lucky team of the tournament.  Each team that is participating in Nā Hoa Aloha 2017 will be entered into a lottery drawing.  Two team names will be drawn at the banquet to announce the winner of the Na Hoa Aloha award: PAYMENT of  registration to NAGVA Championships 2018 for the FIRST team drawn.  In the event the first team will NOT attend or refuses the award it will be passed onto the second team drawn.  This very special award is courtesy of Jim Moore's family and his loving husband, Jeff Chen.  We will award this at the conclusion of Na Hoa Aloha Volleyball Invitational and rules and restrictions will be posted on our site at the conclusion of this years tournament.

December 11th

After the tournament...

YES, you read that right.  AFTER the tournament, on Monday, December 11th we have worked with Kualoa Ranch ( http://www.kualoa.com/ ) to offer all NAGVA members, friends, and family discounted tours and expeditions.  This 4000 Acre Ranch was the film site of Jurassic World, Godzilla, Skull Island, and Jurassic Park.  Secret Island Beach is also where Niki Minaj celebrated her birthday and has hosted celebrities such as Chris Pratt, Janet Jackson, Kevin Hart, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to name a few.  **They offer a round trip transportation service from Waikiki for $15.  This option is DEFINITELY worth the price.**  Activities such as kayaking, Stand Up Paddle, canoe riding, sand volleyball, and snorkeling are included with the Secret Island Beach activity.  Additional activities such as ATV, horseback, and various other tours and expeditions are available at an extra cost.  More information on pricing will be provided but suffice it to say, you will be getting the BEST discount through the PGVC discount set up!  Visit their site to see what they have to offer but before you book, please check in with Dale (vicepresident@pgvc.org) to guarantee you have the correct codes.

** Pick up from a selected hotel will be around 7am and drop off will be between 3:30-4:30.  THIS IS AN ALL DAY EVENT!!
